Frontier House
For those of you, like me, that missed the Frontier House series/experiment on PBS you can watch it here. I highly recommend it. It truly was an awesome experiment to take 3 families and send them back to 1883 on the Montana frontier. They had to built and stock their homestead and prepare for winter. To me what was the most interesting was to see the change in the men. It was as if for the first time these 3 men felt fulfilled by doing with their own hands and their own sweat and blood. The emotional attachment to what they had accomplished was evident when they had to leave and come back to the modern day, but more so at a later interview when they all felt like they were now out of place and that there was simply "too much" in the way of choices and things. The children realized this also. Anyway I encourage everyone to watch this series as it truly is eye opening into the changes that society has made since those days when surviving the winter was the year long priority. Blessings from the farm, Kat
