The Legacy

I got to thinking the other day about all the things that I recall on a daily basis that I have gleaned from family elders over the years. Thinking about that got me to thinking about what I am leaving behind for my children and grandchildren. In other words what legacy am I giving them. I am not talking about material things for those things are temporary and life has a way of taking them away. The legacy I am talking about is what am I giving them that can never go away for as long as they choose to hold on to it. So here are the things that I pray that I am leaving my children with as their legacy.

Faith- I pray everyday that I am teaching and showing my children that God and His abundance is glorious and everlasting. I pray that they understand that His graciousness and courage can get them through any of the trials and tribulations that life brings. I hope that they learn from me that true peace only comes from the love of Jesus Christ.

Love- I pray that I am leaving teaching my children that they are loved and how to love unconditionally. There is such joy in loving someone else, just as there is such joy in being loved. Saying I love you is a big deal in our house and is done on a regular basis. I pray that my girls never forget how much and how deeply I love them.

Tenacity- I pray that my girls learn how to be tenacious. To go after their dreams and not to ever let anyone else tell them they can't do something.

Wisdom- I know much of this comes with age, but the more I think about it..it is age that gives us the clarity to understand the wisdom that came from those before us. I pray that my children gain this clarity to see and understand the wisdom that they are being given.

Skills- I pray that my children always know how to take care of their basic needs. That if time gets tough they can grow a garden and raise some rabbits for meat. I pray that they learn the skills of cooking good wholesome foods and making ends meet. I pray that they learn how to survive and thrive no matter what life throws at them.

Education- I pray that my children never stop in their desire to learn and that they develop a love for knowledge. No matter how old you are or how many years they have been away from formal "education" there is always something to learn. I pray that they understand that sometimes it is fun to learn something just to see if you can.

This is the legacy that I want my children to treasure and hold on to. Material things pass away if they were ever there to begin with. I know in my own family history wealth and land have been had and lost time and again. Many times my ancestors started over with very very little. However, the legacy can't be lost and can't be taken away. It is something that will stay with them as long as they choose to hold it dear. I pray that they do and I pray that I pass it on to them. I Should Have Known Better (Civil War History)

I should have known better this morning than to read this ridiculous article in the Washington Post. Really I should know better than to read anything in the Washington Post, knowing that most pieces are simply opinion. I suppose I was merely intrigued that a story about the Civil War was being written in a NEWSpaper. I thought newspapers were for news that was well....new, not history. I opened it anyway. So here is my response to this non researched garbage. Mr. Loewen claims that the south was actually opposed to states' rights. Mr. Loewen could not be further from the truth. The south actually believed that piece of paper called the United States Constitution that gave them all right to govern themselves as an independent member of a constitutional republic. Oddly enough, the majority of the people of the northern states also felt that each individual state had the right to decide what to do for themselves. It was only a select few mostly northern Congressmen who felt otherwise. Sounds a little familiar doesn't it, the people strongly oppose a bailout but Congress does it anyway. They didn't listen to the people then and they aren't doing it now. Secondly, Mr. Loewen claims that the imposition of overwhelming taxes and tariffs on the southern states is a lie also. If he had bothered to do any research at all he would have seen that the southern states had a much larger export market than the north and its fledgling factories. Most tariffs and taxes were levied on exports, so who paid those high export taxes? Well, that would be those that did the most exporting, the south and the cotton industry. The Morrell Tariff was actually the straw that broke the camel's back. The south already paid 80% of the nations taxes and when time came to spend that money they were routinely outvoted in Congress in favor of northern infrastructure. Why were they outvoted? It is simple, more people in the north than south meant more representatives for the north. His third "myth" holds that even though the majority of whites in the south were too poor to own slaves, they were optimistic about one day reaching the upper eschelons of society and wanted to secure their ability to own slaves at that point. What a bunch of baloney. He also states in this area that there was such an air of white supremacy that they were afraid to go against their kind. And uses this statement "The consequence will be that our men will be all exterminated or expelled to wander as vagabonds over a hostile earth, and as for our women, their fate will be too horrible to contemplate even in fancy." by then Georgia Supreme Court Justice Henry Benning. Well, if Mr. Loewen had bothered to do any research he would understand that this statement was in response to the Haiti slave rebellions. The south was indeed looking for a way to move away from slavery because it was no longer economically viable since the invention of the cotton gin (just like we no longer use draft horses on most farms anymore). However, they realized that just turning all those people loose with no homes, no jobs, no food was not the way to go. In fact, the plantation owners in Haiti had done just that. They sent all of their slaves packing. Essentially, they threw them out of their homes (owned by the plantation), took away their food supply (again owned by the plantation) and sent them on their way. The slaves retaliated because there was no means for them to support themselves and they burned and looted the plantations and very few plantation owners escaped death. So this comment that Mr. Loewen uses out of context to try to support his feeble opinion, was actually a valid fear held by the south because it had already happened elsewhere! I will give him this, he does come slightly close to the truth with his myth #4. Lincoln didn't care about slavery nor did he care about the slaves. He actually was in favor of putting all slaves back on boats and sending them back to Africa. However, the only reason he cared about keeping the nation together was because of money. I have already explained that the north at that time simply couldn't have done without the large amount of money that it received from the taxes imposed on the south. Lincoln knew that and didn't want to lose a huge source of revenue, his main source. This brings us to his final "myth" which I have already touched on a bit. He says that even though it is impossible to disprove that slavery would have ended on its own, it is difficult to accept that it would have. Well, that is his opinion. How many things have developed and evolved in agricultural history. I am sure there was a time when farmers could not even fathom the invention of the tractor and the end of using draft horses to pull a plow. I am sure there was a day when farmers could not fathom a machine that would milk their cows for them. Large draft horses became more of an economic burden on the farmer once the tractor was invented. It would have been the same with slavery. Think about it Mr. Loewen. Slaves had to be housed, fed, clothed, medical needs attended to all year long whether there was a crop to harvest or not. With mechanized equipment that could do the work only when needed and didn't cost anything the rest of the year, slavery was not a sound business expense. Farming is a business whether you know it or not. We don't just play in the dirt for the fun of it (ok it is fun, but that is not the point). In closing I would highly suggest that Mr. Loewen do some research before he puts his opinions on paper and states them as fact. History is history, it doesn't need to be twisted into a story to suit whichever audience you want to reach. Slavery existed in the United States, get over it. There are more important things to learn from the Un-Civil War (there was nothing civil about that war) because what happened then leading up to that massacre is happening now to lead to another possible massacre and folks if we don't wake up and learn our history we will repeat it. Arizona is now fighting for its right to keep illegals out of its state. Sounds like the same states' rights that were an issue in 1861. Many states including my own, have declared Obamacare unconstitutional and sent out Declarations of Sovereignty in response to imposing a glorified tax on the people of their states. Sounds like the taxes and tariffs of the 1860s also. The American people both black and white need to get around this smoke screen and mirrors trick being imposed on them by constantly bickering over slavery. The rest of the issues are still happening right under our noses! Slavery happened, it happened here and it happened in Egypt 4000 years ago and it has happened at some point in some time throughout history around the globe. But what is happening now is that the American people are willingly taking up those chains of slavery yet again because they fail to understand the real truth of history. Mr. Loewen if you want to write about the Civil War, write about something worthwhile. Something we can learn that will help us today when we as a nation are facing the same tyranny and oppression and invasion of states' rights that only a few faced 150 years ago. I will hop down off my soap box with this quote,

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government." (The Declaration of Independence)

The men and women of the south knew this document. They believed in it and had fought for it and died for it. They believed it so deeply that they were willing to risk lives and fortunes to keep it alive. You see, they suffered just as the colonies did, in a long train of abuses of which they could do nothing about. So they set to provide new Guards for their future and their children's future. Mr. Loewen have you even read the Declaration of Independence?

The Gulag Archipelago

My senior year in high school I had to read two of Solzhenitsyn's works, The Gulag Archipelago and A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch. Neither meant much to me then other than the Gulag was this huge tomb of a book that at times could be quite tedious reading and Denisovitch was a much easier read. I recently came across a hardback edition of The Gulag Archipelago and this little voice inside my head told me that I should read it again. After all high school was "cough" 21 years ago and my perspective of the world and the things in it is much different than it was then. I was right. Every adult American needs to read this book and every single one of them needs to be terrified by the things that they read. Upon reading one will realize that no longer are there similarities between the paths taken to communist rule in Russia and what we are experiencing here. Instead our country is an exact copy following in the exact same footsteps. It isn't possible here they say. They better think again. Read The Gulag Archipelago. You won't be disappointed. The funny thing is that Solzhenitsyn was never going to publish this book. But felt compelled to when it was confiscated from him in order to keep its stories suppressed. So in honor of his courage I am going to be putting quotes from the book under the title all the while I am reading it. It is a huge tomb so Solzhenitsyn will probably be a guest on my blog for quite some time. Blessings from the farm, Kat

Progress on the Book

I posted at the beginning of the year that I have decided to write a book about our journey toward self-sufficiency and a more agrarian life. The book is coming along, pretty well. Somedays it is hard to get motivated or the time to write much. I was hoping to have at least the first draft done by this winter, but I don't think that will happen. It has been a busy summer and like I said sometimes hard to be able to sit down and work on it. I have several chapters done though. So maybe we are looking at spring to finish with at least the first draft. Blessings from the farm, Kat

George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation

Since today is thanksgiving, I thought it appropriate to post Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation. Enjoy!

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

New Southern history Website

A friend of mine pointed me to a relatively new website about true Southern history. Some of you might enjoy it and some of you might not. Anyway if anyone is interested in checking out The Dixie Republic and learning a few things about our history here in the South, especially stuff you never learned or never will learn from government or mainstream educators. Our great Confederate heroes knew that unless we learned our history for ourselves it would be rewritten by the victors. In the words of Major General Patrick Cleburne:

"Every man should endeavor to understand the meaning of subjugation before it is too late... It means the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy; that our youth will be trained by Northern schoolteachers; will learn from Northern school books their version of the war; will be impressed by the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors, and our maimed veterans as fit objects for derision... It is said slavery is all we are fighting for, and if we give it up we give up all. Even if this were true, which we deny, slavery is not all our enemies are fighting for. It is merely the pretense to establish sectional superiority and a more centralized form of government, and to deprive us of our rights and liberties."

Pay close attention to his last two sentences, for that is exactly what has happened to this great nation and I believe that it has become more and more difficult to deny it. As Southerners it is our duty to study and know our true history, for it is a noble one.

"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations."

The cause of the Confederacy was a noble cause and one that has not ceased to exist, we stand for this cause today more than ever. The only difference between now and then is that many of the states, no matter north or south east or west, now stands with us. I fear that it is now too little too late, however and that they talons of apostasy and treason have sunk in too deep for too long. I will close with the words of General Robert E. Lee:

Francis Scott Key Wrote a Song

Not many Americans really know the story behind the Star Spangled Banner and it is an amazing story about ordinary men, women and children. Not a story of the typical heroes of the Revolutionary War but just simple souls seeking to live a life in peace, free from tyranny and oppression. A people wanting to make their way in the world by the sweat of their brow and the callouses of their hands and owe their allegiance to no one but God Almighty. Oh, I know, these days it is considered politically incorrect to say that America was founded as a nation dedicated to God and Jesus Christ by men who revered Him, loved Him, and fought and died for Him. The tribes of Israel and the sons of Joseph had come to their new promised land, under their new name and just wanted to live free and in peace. Anyway back to the story of the star spangled banner and Francis Scott Key. It is an amazing story and one that I did not learn of until I was much older than school age. The thing that dumbfounded me when I happened on this little tidbit of history is that I was never taught this in school. I think if I had been taught more about the people of the revolution instead of droll facts, battles and dates, I would have had much more interest in history. It wasn't until I started researching my own genealogy that I truly began to learn about history and especially history of that time. There are so many family with records that tell a story of a people and you truly do not find those stories until you start looking for your own story of your own people. So on this 4th of July I would like to share with you the story behind the Star Spangled Banner, words to a song that we often sing without thinking of their meaning. I may have certain details incorrect, but that truly is irrelevant because this song is a tribute to a people, not a time or a place. During the revolutionary war it was common for Britain and the Colonies to exchange prisoners of war. Francis Scott Key was sent on such a mission, to exchange prisoners of war with a British Admiral. The colonial prisoners were being held off shore of New York? (somebody correct me if I am wrong). Actually the whole British fleet was out there. Key made his way out to the ship and in discussing the exchange with the admiral, was interrupted by the admiral who said that by morning no exchange would be necessary. The prisoners would be free to go. Key was puzzled by this and questioned the meaning of the admiral's words. The admiral told Key to look over at the shore, at a small Fort flying the American flag. I believe it was Fort McHenry but since I am too lazy to go looking through boxes of genealogy notes I will depend on one of you to supply the correct fort. The Admiral then told Key that by morning light the war would be over because that Fort had been instructed to take down that flag or the entire British fleet would open fire and destroy it. Key the pleaded with the admiral because you see, there were only a handful of colonial soldiers at that fort. Most were somewhere else. That fort was occupied mostly by civilian men, women, and children. The Admiral told Key that all they had to do was to take down that flag voluntarily or the British fleet would take it down. The flag never wavered and because darkness had fallen Key was unable to make his way back to shore. He was forced to watch the horror of that night unfold. The appointed time passed and the flag stood in place, the British fleet opened fire on that little fort. The prisoners in the hold wanted to know what was happening and so Key relayed the details of the night. The fleet would fire on the fort and specifically on the flag. With each wave of attack the red glare would show the flag to still stand. As the night wore on the flag wavered many times as the fleet was directly firing at the flag. The flag became more tattered as the night wore on and no one on that ship knew how that flag still stood under such a brutal and direct attack. However, the flag stood and it may have shredded and it may have wavered, but that flag never fell and no one took it down. As dawn came, the admiral did as promised and released the prisoners who headed to shore straight for Fort McHenry? The flag was still there, even though the fort itself was demolished by the brutal attack. When Key arrived at the fort, what he saw was almost beyond belief. You see the flag and its pole had suffered many direct hits and each time that the flag started to fall the men in the fort would run to hold it up. Each time that the flag was hit the men holding it would be killed and more men would run to hold it up. Eventually, the men of the fort were all dead holding onto that flag pole and the boys of the fort took their positions to see that it did not fall. That flag was held up and in place over that demolished fort by the bodies of civilian men and boys. Patriots willing to give their life so that others might live free. The Star Spangled Banner was a song written to honor their death and their sacrifice. It is a song that has honored the death and sacrifice of all who have stood for ideals of the founding fathers and the people of the Revolution. Now, over 200 years later, I sit here having a very bittersweet 4th of July. It is a sad day in our history because we have lost what was once so precious that people were willing to die for it. When Benjamin Franklin was asked what form of government our new nation had, he replied, "A republic, if you can keep it." Well, infortunately we haven't kept our republic in which sovereign states worked together for a common interest. Now we have slave states dependent on a central superpower. Children in schools are no longer taught that America is a Constitutional Republic, instead they are taught that it is a Democracy. Our history has been rewritten, and our people no longer value the freedom that our founding fathers sought to give us. We are once again subjects of a tyrannical government and so many don't even know it. So on this day in which men voluntarily gave their lives for freedom, I find it sad that their descendants have allowed such a precious gift to be stolen and some even voluntarily give it away. This has been coming for a long time and little by little our freedoms have been eroded away. The Constitution that many of us hold dear is of little value in Washington anymore. The men and women of the Confederacy were the last to make a stand for that document. I know that is another story to most, but really it is the same story. Government was too big and taking too much control, many states saw it and knew it. It was the states of the Confederacy and Maryland who chose to make a stand for the founding fathers and the Constitution. This country was bought and paid for with the blood of ordinary men and women, Francis Scott Key knew this and saw it first hand. The next time any American sings the Star Spangled Banner they should remember that, and hold those ideals close to their heart. Do we truly have any patriots anymore, or are we patriots where only words are concerned? Do we have the courage that our forefathers once had, or have our numbers been diluted by the blood of cowards? Oh, say, can you see....?

Honest Abe? I don't think so!

I would like to point out an awesome sermon found at Is the Truth Really Out There blog. This sermon is by Pastor John Weaver and is an excellent expose' of the real Abraham Lincoln, not the lie taught in government schools today. The thing that gets me is that Obama is referred to as the next Lincoln. Lincoln was a poorly educated tyrant with no regards to the Constitution or the Republic. Hmmmmm...sounds familiar with our current administration. Anyway, check it out as it is definitely worth the read. God help us all!

The South Must Rise Again

The South Must Rise Again is a sermon by Pator John Weaver. It is one of the best sermons I have listened to for a long time. I will summarize and then you can take a listen. It is about an hour long, but well worth the listen.

Lincoln was the first president to ignore the Constitution of the United States and to directly ignore the orders of Congress. The Civil War was Lincoln's war and he went so far as to imprison congressmen that disagreed, including those from northern states. The Confederate Union was a union of states willing to stand for Christ. This was a religious war as well as a war for liberty and freedom. The leading theologians of the time were in the South. Lincoln sought to destroy the South. He was the first president to enact executive orders. The Civil War changed our government from a Constitutional Republic to a democratic empire. The Unitarian principles that were prevalent in the north, that man needs no Savior and has the power of redemption for themselves,had invaded our churches ever since. We now see the ultra liberal school of thought that all religions have their way to heaven. This heresy proclaims that none need Jesus Christ, he is just one of many ways. The South must rise again in order to defeat this heresy and once again stand on the principle that Jesus Christ alone is the way to salvation. The south must rise again to restore the republic that we all hold so dear. Lincoln allowed and proposed the growth of our federal government and the idea that the government must take care of the people instead of the people taking care of themselves and the government. Lincoln did not preserve the union he utterly destroyed it. We now see disasters in which the people do not cry out for the help of God almighty, but instead call out for the help of the government. The people of this country have replaced God with the government. The south must rise again as what it once was, the bastion of the Biblical faith and the citadel for the Constitutional republic. There is a reason we are called the Bible belt and we must be willing to stand up and defend such an honor. This is a must listen to sermon, especially with so many states declaring sovereignty. This sermon explains the history and biblical reasons behind why we need to go through this act. May God be with us all.

Our Founding Fathers

History has been rewritten and changed on so many historical subjects, I suppose it is only natural that those who do the changing distort who our founding fathers were. However, to anyone who has truly studied our founding fathers and their words, thoughts and actions it becomes obvious that they were Christian men who lived their lives by the word of God. Their intention was that this nation be a free nation under God, a Christian nation. They understood their heritage and that they were part of the House of Israel. Just like our ancestors did so very long ago we have allowed the false religions of the world to corrupt what God put together. Make no mistake about it, it was God himself that founded our country. There is no other explanation of how a few thousand men vanquished the most powerful military force in all the world at the time. It was the prayers of those men and those women that were heard by God and God answered. Everything we have enjoyed here for over 200 years is because of God. Yet we are giving it away and forgetting Who it belongs to. We have let this nation become corrupted by every false god on the face of the earth. All under the false interpretation of "Freedom of Religion". When our founding fathers talked about freedom of religion they were speaking of freedom of the Christian religion. To belong to whichever church of God that citizens so desired. Unfortunately, over the years the corruption of other gods has infiltrated our country and weakened our Christianity all in the name of tolerance. However, this notion of tolerance and "your ok, I'm ok" bull does not come from The One God Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth, Of All Things Seen and Unseen. This notion of tolerance has come from those lesser gods that have no place in the House of Israel. By giving obeyance to the voices of these lesser gods look at what we have done to ourselves. Take a good hard look. The blessings once bestowed upon us and the other Christian nations of the world have been taken away as a whole. Our economies are crashing, our people are divided and weakened, we are hated and reviled, and our governments are being destroyed. And Christian ministers in this country dare to encourage us to follow those false gods of false religions and bow our knees to them promising blessings. Take a look around, open our eyes and ears. These don't look like blessings to me. The unemplyment rates goes up daily, the dollar drops daily, other countries want nothing to do with us financially, our government cannot be trusted, our people are cowards. And all the while we have forgotten who this country belongs to, who built this country, and who placed His people here. Judge Roy Moore knew from whence everything came and for that he was persecuted and reviled. What have we as a nation done to ourselves? We have forgotten our founding fathers, we have forgotten their words and we have replaced it all with lies that come from the false gods of the world. We no longer hear the words of God Almighty because we have closed our hearts and our minds and abandoned Him who made us. Christians, it is time to remember the words of our founding fathers. It is time to remember who gave us this land. It is time to make a stand for what is right and good and stop the lies and the deception. It is time to hold our teachers accountable and our leaders accountable. We the People are this nation, not the few and the elite. Let our voices be heard and let our prayers be answered. We the People........

We the People

We the People seem to have forgotten that the power and the responsibility for this country lies in our hands. We have taken for granted that we hold this responsibility and have placed too much trust and too much power in the hands of a few. Look where it has gotten us. We the people of the United States have the right and the duty to demand that our government redress our grievances.

"Congress shall make no law...abridging...the right of the people...to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

We the people are doing just that and have as yet received no answer. Patriots now is the time to stand up and speak up. If we do not stand up and speak up and hold our government accountable for its action then we deserve the fate we will suffer. I urge you to visit the We the People Foundation. Read and sign the Petitions for Redress, print them out and get your neighbors, friends, and colleagues to sign them. Volunteer to help with the Continental Congree 2009, the first since our founding fathers stood together and established the Republic of the United States of America. Our government owes us accountability and instead they hide from us what is rightfully ours to know.

Something a Little Different

You will all notice that today's Bible verse has changed. I can assure this change is temporary. However, I feel that since this is the day that our country is stolen that the words of our founding fathers might bring about our sense of responsibility toward our Country. So we will have quotes from our founding fathers for awhile. I pray that you enjoy them, I pray that you think about them, I pray that you understand them. I pray most of all that we all realize what blessings Almighty God has bestowed upon this country and take up our duty, act upon it, and gather our sense of responsibility and honour back.
