“If people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny.” Thomas Jefferson

Our Homeschool Style

Although I tried to list our homeschool subjects along with our resources it is not an easy task. We are eclectic homeschoolers and we pull a little from here and a little from there. Even with the curriculum workbooks that we use, we adapt them to fit our needs. We like the abeka because the review is there if it is needed, but we can easily leave it out of the lesson. Being an eclectic homeschooler gives us the freedom to explore and learn in other ways and we don't feel as if we are missing lessons for the day. We don't do every subject everyday as we work on more of the type of schedule we had when we were in college. We have a set amount of things that we wish to cover in a week and that is what we go by. Sometimes my child wants to do all of her math in one day and that is fine. I feel like children learn when they are ready to learn and not when they are forced to learn. Of course, sometimes, they push the envelope and the weekly guidelines must be enforced whether they want to or not. Most of the time they are eager to learn. I don't have much trouble with the little one as she is always eager to do more. I want my educational experience to be enjoyable as well as educational. My goal is for my children to learn that learning is fun. When they enjoy learning it will become a lifelong passion and they will never be left in the dark.
