February, No Buy month update

I know....it is just the third day of the month. So far so good though. I have noticed a few things that I am out of, but those can wait until the end of the month. This is a good time for me to assess what I need to replace and am getting low on. I will have to buy new tractor tires, but I am hoping that will be all this month. It will really help to rotate our food supplies before the spring crops start coming in. One thing about living from harvest to harvest is looking forward to what will be coming. We are out of cauliflower in the freezer and I simply can't wait to start harvesting some. Who'd a thunk it? Somebody looking forward to cauliflower! I will keep everyone updated on this no buy month so we can all see how it goes. I figure it is a good time to find the holes in my pantry supplies and farm supplies. I plan on keeping a running list throughout the month to keep track of what needs to be replaced or stocked up on in March. Have a blessed day!

Hello Kat!
We've been doing sort of the same thing, going through and using up what we have in the cellar, pantry and freezers. Last night we had fried ham slices( cubed into bite sized pieces), then fried onion, garlic(3 cloves, we LOVE it) until tender, added a wee... bit more olive oil, potatoes( chopped small), cabbage and carrots shredded. stirring to prevent burning until tender, then added the ham back in and finally added a secret ingredient I just learned about; Balsmic vinegar and stir until it looks like it's carmelizing. BOY howdy was it good!

We have a lot of onions left, so I think we'll concentrate on dehydrating them and the garlic we're going to pickle and put some in olive oil. The squash are gone and we have two heads of cabbage left, so I'm thinking cabbage buns, sooner than later*wink*

Kat, I cannot wait to be in a position where we have so much put up from our garden that we have to focus on consuming it before the next season. You're such an inspiration! Thanks for letting me learn from your experience.

Janice, yes we truly have been blessed this past year. This is the first year that we truly have been able to have such a dilemma. Thank you for the kind remarks, I am glad to be able to help inspire others in their journey to self sufficiency.
