Blackberries are ripening!
It is blackberry season. One of my favorite seasons of the year. I think of all the berries out there I love blackberries the most. We always wait to bushhog the large pasture until after the blackberries are finished producing. The are wild and unculitvated and grow rapidly. They are just beginning to ripen and yesterday we picked enough to get a good amount of jam made today. The trick is in getting the ripe berries before all of the wild birds do. Of course, there is plenty for all of us. I just like to be able to leave the ones that we cannot reach for them and we can have the rest. Kinda like the fig trees. Most people keep their fig trees short so that they can reach all of the fruit. We let our get as big as they want and then the birds can have the fruit in the top of the tree that we can't reach. I just love blackberry season. With more ripening everyday we might have a cobbler tonight or tomorrow for desert, oh what a treat!

This year the Lord has blessed us with wild blackberries growing along the picket fence enclosure of our every so small backyard. Last year, there was a small patch on the 80ac. next to us growing beneath a Mulberry tree -- unfortunately not ours. I'm thrilled to see it has migrated to various patches along our fence line. Ours have not formed berries yet as they still have their lovely white flowers. The pollinators are enjoying these white beauties immensely.
